Connecticut has a mixed bag of community colleges on list of best, worst

With another college semester around the corner, researchers have ranked the country's best and worst community colleges.

The personal finance website said it ranked 821 of the country's community colleges and many of Connecticut's placed toward the middle of the pack.

However, the state as a whole ranked 9th among the best community college systems.

The highest ranking school on the list was Northwest Connecticut Community College in Winchester. It was 62nd with a "cost and financing rank" of 180, an "education outcomes rank" of 453 and a "career outcomes rank" of 10.

Here's how the rest of the schools fared:

  • 62 - Northwestern Connecticut Community College, Winchester
  • 92 - Gateway Community College, New Haven
  • 168 - Manchester Community College, Manchester
  • 205 - Norwalk Community College, Norwalk
  • 282 - Asnuntuck Community College, Enfield
  • 332 - Naugatuck Valley Community College, Waterbury
  • 502 - Capital Community College, Hartford
  • 515 - Tunxis Community College, Farmington
  • 642 - Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport
  • 753 - Quinebaug Valley Community College, Killingly

WalletHub said it compared the schools across 12 key metrics.

The metrics included cost of in-state tuition and fees, student-faculty ratio and graduation rate.
