NORTH STONINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A man pulled from a lake in North Stonington Monday night has died, according to environmental officials.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said 30-year-old Scott Hurne of Uncasville was pulled from Billings Lake by a group of teens.

The teens told officials that they saw a group of people swim towards a piece of land in the middle of the lake when one of them disappeared in murky water.

They were able to locate the victim and bring him to shore.

DEEP said Hurne was brought to Backus Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m.

It said its EnCon police are continuing to investigate.

DEEP also said Billings Lake is not a designated swimming area.
