Fugitive in East Hartford murder case found in upstate New York

EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A man was arrested in New York in connection with the murder of a man in East Hartford this past spring.

Police said they arrested James Burrill, 38, of East Hartford, for the shooting death of 33-year-old Jerome Mack Jr.

Mack was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest in his Smith Drive home on March 25.

Police said they responded to the home just before 6:15 p.m. after receiving multiple reports that someone had been shot in the area.

Mack was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics arrived.

Police said Burrill was found in Syracuse, NY Tuesday morning.

Through an arrest warrant, he was charged with murder, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Burrill was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

He was being held as a fugitive from justice in Syracuse pending his extradition.
