MILFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Environmental officials released a list of beach closures on Wednesday morning.

The Department if Energy and Environmental Protection said the swimming areas at Silver Sands State Park in Milford, Gardner Lake State Park in Salem, Indian Well State Park in Shelton, Kettletown State Park in Southbury, Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Promfret and Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford are closed.

DEEP said the reason was high bacteria.

However, they said indicator bacteria are not disease-causing pathogens. They are just a tool used by public health and environmental protection authorities to evaluate the potential for contamination of water bodies.

The other parts of the parks remain open.
