Police arrested two people after they received a report of people shooting a rifle off of a balcony in New London.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the area of Shaw and Hamilton streets to investigate the report of two individuals shooting a rifle off of an outdoor balcony in the residential neighborhood.
Upon arriving on scene, it was determined that the shots came from the rear porch area of 1 Hamilton Street. Further investigation revealed that a male and a female had fired what appeared to be a .22 caliber rifle and unknown caliber pellet gun from the rear porch of 1 Hamilton Street, Unit #7.10.
Police seized a Ruger .22 Caliber rifle, refashioned and restocked to resemble an M-16 military-type rifle. A barn-type structure located behind 1 Hamilton Street sustained minor damage to its exterior siding. No injuries reported from incident.
Police arrested Robert Sanchez, 22, of 1 Hamilton Street, New London and charged him with unlawful discharge of a firearm, second-degree reckless endangerment and breach of peach. Sanchez was released to the custody of the U.S. Navy and is due in court August 25.
Police also arrested Rachel Whittinghill, 18, of 1 Hamilton Street, New London and charged her with unlawful discharge of a firearm, second-degree reckless endangerment and breach of peach. Whittinghill was held on bond.
