Environmental officials said that they had to close two state park beaches on Thursday due to water quality concerns.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said Indian Well State Park in Shelton and Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret were closed because of a high count of indicator bacteria.
DEEP said indicator bacteria are not disease-causing pathogens. However, they're a tool used to measure the potential contamination of water bodies.
Officials said that while the beaches were off limits to swimmers, the rest of the parks are open for business.
