Officials said a former Newtown police sergeant was sentenced to prison Thursday for illegally selling steroids.
Steven Santucci, 40, of Waterbury was sentenced by a federal judge to 16 months in prison.
Santucci was arrested last year after a lengthy investigation found he was receiving shipments of steroid ingredients from China.
Officials said he would then manufacture and sell the steroids wholesale.
They said Santucci used more than $120,000 from the sales to wire payments to foreign sellers of the ingredients.
Officials also found he charged more than $300,000 on two personal credit cards, including more than $100,000 for luxury vacations.
Santucci pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and one count of conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.
Following his 16 month prison sentence, Santucci will have to serve six months of home confinement and 120 hours of community service.
He will also have two years of supervised release.
He was released on a $100,000 bond and was ordered to report to prison on October 10.
