A portion of Capitol Avenue in Hartford was closed because of a large water main break on Tuesday morning.
As of 11 a.m., police said it reopened.
Deputy Chief Brian Foley said the road was closed at Beacon Street.
He said the road was "possibly caving."
The Metropolitan District Commission said the break happened in an 8 inch main.
It said the water main was shut down from Beacon Street to Prospect Avenue. Two gas stations and a two-family residence were affected.
As of 1 p.m., water service had been restored.
The main was installed in 1910.
