CROMWELL, CT (WFSB) -

A Friendly's restaurant in Cromwell was closed for the day on Wednesday after a car slammed into the building.

Police said it happened shortly after 9 a.m. at the business on Berlin Road.

They said the driver, 65-year-old Arlene Ericksen of Cromwell, inadvertently pressed the accelerator, which lurched her vehicle forward into the west side of the building.

The vehicle may have struck the outside of a brick wall, but it caused damaged to parts of the interior kitchen area, according to police.

No one was hurt and everyone was able to safely exit the building.

Cromwell's building inspector, as well as its health inspector, responded. They determined that as a result of the damage, the restaurant would be closed until repairs can be made.
