Swimmers of all distances took the plunge for a good cause Saturday at the Cheshire Town Pool.
The Beth Calabotta Swim Challenge was held on Saturday to benefit late stage cancer research by way of the Cancer Couch Foundation Inc.
In the end, those who participated swam 1,408 laps or 21 miles and raised $6,000 for The Cancer Couch foundation. That amount will be matched by Dana Farber.
The challenge originated in Calabotta's home state of Illinois, according to organizers. It made its way to Cheshire after Calabotta connected with a Cheshire resident.
According to the event's organizers, Calabotta, who is 48, has lived with cancer for eight years. She's been very sick with metastatic breast cancer, which at the moment is underfunded.
