HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Investigators in Hartford have deemed a house fire "suspicious."

They said the fire, which forced out two families on Deerfield Avenue Monday afternoon, consumed much of the multi-family home's second and third floors.

Hartford firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the fire.

One firefighter had to be treated at the hospital for exhaustion.

No one else was hurt.

Two kittens were rescued from the home.

The people living inside had to be relocated due to the extensive damage.

The Hartford Fire Department's fire marshal requested the police department's major crimes arson detectives to investigate.

The exact cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Tuesday morning.
