A former Plainfield High School science teacher was due in court on Monday following accusations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student.
Ryan Clair of Amston saw his case continued on Monday.
He was arrested last month after he turned himself in on a warrant.
Clair used smartphone apps like Snapchat to communicate and send messages of a "sexual nature" to the girl, according to police.
Police also said Clair and the student met up both inside and outside of the school for about three weeks in April.
During that time, Eyewitness News learned that the girl confided in Clair that she had been sexually assaulted but never reported it to police.
Police said at that point, Clair and the student had developed a relationship.
It was Clair who eventually reported the girl's sexual assault, which in turn got him into trouble, according to investigators.
Clair was placed on administrative leave and later resigned.
In late August, he was charged with risk of injury to a minor and failure to report as a mandated reporter.
Clair was released on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to face a judge in Danielson Superior Court Monday.
