It's a day where chocolate and ice cream lovers alike and forget about counting calories and enjoy a nice tall, thick and delicious chocolate milkshake.
Researchers said the term "milkshake" first appeared in print in 1885. At that point, however, it referred to an alcoholic beverage described as a "sturdy, healthful eggnog type of drink." It was essentially a blend of eggs, whiskey and other ingredients served both as a tonic and treat at pharmacies.
By 1900, milkshakes became "wholesome drinks made with chocolate, strawberry and vanilla syrup," the site said. Around this time, customers began asking for it with a scoop of ice cream.
In 1922, according to NationalDayCalendar, the electric blender was invented and was used in serving the drink.
The rest is history.
