A report of a crash on Interstate 84 in Willington led police to make an arrest for a shooting.
State police arrested Luis Sierra, 24, of Hartford, for shooting a victim in the leg.
A victim was spotted on Sunday just after 6:40 a.m. walking on I-84 eastbound near the rest area. Troopers said he had a bullet wound through his right calf.
A search of the area did not reveal any other victims or suspects.
They said they never found a crash. However, they found Sierra and a blue Honda near exit 70.
The car did not show any signs of being involved in a crash, according to state police. However, a number of used .380 shell casings were found both in and around the vehicle.
A .380 semi-automatic pistol was found on the ground. It had been tossed over the bridge where the Honda was stopped.
Investigators determined that Sierra and the victim were involved in some kind of fight, which resulted in the victim's wound.
The victim was transported to Hartford Hospital by an ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
Sierra was taken into state police custody. When they continued their investigation, they said they found a small bag of methamphetamine.
Sierra was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and possession of narcotics.
