ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

Four Rocky Hill town employees are being accused of drinking at work, and most of them work in the police department.

Police said a lieutenant, a sergeant, a police officer, and a record’s clerk were allegedly drinking at work. This reportedly happened earlier this year, in February or March.

Eyewitness News was told it happened in the Human Services area, which is in the same building as the police department, but they are separated by a locked doorway.

When questioned, police Sgt. Joseph Phelps admitted “he brought a 12 pack of Yuengling beer into the Human Services area and placed it in the refrigerator.”

He said he brought that for him and three other employees, according to documents.

The sergeant admitted that he drank one beer and he left after his shift.

Detective Andrew O’Brien said “we all had a beer, that’s it,” documents showed.

Officer Jon Lammers also stated it was off-duty, saying “the night was over. We weren’t getting paid as far as I know. We were all frustrated at how bad the workload was.”

Clerk Lauren Cunningham admitted to having a beer but “felt that her work night had concluded.

Documents said the four town employees violated the town’s personnel rules.

It is unclear what any punishment is or will be.
