TORRINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

An assistant store manager was hospitalized following a robbery at a shoe store in Torrington.

Police said they're searching for a man who robbed the Famous Footwear store on East Main Street earlier this week.

They said the suspect entered the store and walked out with a pair of sneakers.

A short time later, the suspect was confronted by the store's assistant manager, identified as Andrew Howe.

He was struck in the head by the suspect and had to be transported to Hartford Hospital, according to police.

According to the victim's family, he needed surgery on Tuesday. He continues to recover.

Howe's wife told Eyewitness News was at home with their children on Sunday when she got the phone call about what had happened. She said she just wants the suspect to be found, and is also thanking those who have been reaching out to her family.

The suspect fled in a light-colored vehicle.

Torrington police posted about the robbery on their Facebook page Monday. They said the suspect might have driven off in a light-colored sedan.

"There was a lot of people in the parking lot, and we're hoping some people will come forward with this information," said Torrington Police Lt. Bart Brown.

Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the man pictured in a released surveillance photo is asked to contact Det. Jim Crean at 860-489-2061.

Famous Footwear is offering a $1,000 reward to the person who helps police track down the man responsible.
