Connecticut State Police have sent out a warning about a traffic ticket email scam.
The email appears to come from a Department of Motor Vehicles, and tells the recipient that they had received a traffic ticket and owe money.
“Is that your vehicle's tag number, your state, were you driving in that location on that date? If not, this probably isn't you. Don't send any money,” state police said in a Facebook post.
Police said if you receive an email that just doesn’t look right, delete it. If you are unsure, call the “issuing” DMV first.
Also, police said the recipient of the email shouldn’t click on any of the links provided in the email either.
“Search for a phone number or email address and contact the appropriate agency directly. Stay alert,” the post said.
