MILFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Police have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with a home invasion in Milford this weekend.

A man, who police later identified as Milford resident Michael Buonaiuto, was seen holding a baseball bat in the front yard of a home on Hawley Avenue on Sunday. Police said Buonaiuto was swinging the bat in "an aggressive manner" and was "pointing the broken tipped end" at another man, who was also in the front yard.

Buonaiuto had "previously gained entry into the home" and police said he was in the residence to harm the male homeowner while he was sleeping. Police said Buonaiuto told the man "several times" that he was going to "kill him."

However, police said the male homeowner was able to get back inside his home and call police. Buonaiuto was unable to get inside the home before officers arrived on the scene.

Police said the homeowner was not seriously injured, but Buonaiuto did use the baseball bat to cause damage to the property.

Buonaiuto was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree home invasion criminal attempt, third-degree  assault and violation of a protective order. He was released on a $50,000 bond.

Buonaiuto is expected to be arraigned at Milford Superior Court on Oct. 11.
