It’s the end of an era for a business in Hartford.
The D & D Italian Market on Franklin Avenue in the south end of the city is closing its doors.
A family member confirmed the closing to Eyewitness News, calling it “sad…more than sad.”
Signs greeted customers on the doors on Monday, directing them to the Wethersfield location on Wolcott Hill Road, which opened in recent years.
The Hartford market dates back to 1932.
In a statement, D and D said "I wanted you to hear it from me first. After years of thought, I made a decision to close the doors to our Hartford store at 276 Franklin Avenue. I am grateful to you and thankful for Hartford's hospitality since our humble beginnings in 1932. D&D Market has been a pillar of the South-End of Hartford for over a half century. D&D Market's staff and I are committed in continuing to serve our customers with the same superior-quality and service at our 675 Wolcott Hill Road location in Wethersfield. As always we appreciate you and your business. We are looking forward to seeing you in Wethersfield."
