HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A "swatting" threat involving Hartford Public Schools is being investigated by police.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley said police were vetting the unconfirmed threat to the school system.

He said the safety of students and staff is their concern.

The threat was faxed into HPS offices, school officials said.

While investigating it, he said they are mitigating interruption to the school day.

The schools will go on as scheduled and will be dismissed as scheduled. No schools were ever locked down.

Foley said eight other districts around the world also vetting these threats. He said Hartford police have been in contact with them. The threats were made between Tuesday and Wednesday.
