Police and fire crews in Branford were called to Branford High School on Tuesday evening after someone walking by the school noticed a suspicious package.
The package was in the bushes in the back of the building, and appeared to be a tightly wrapped garbage bag.
The back of the building was evacuated until members from the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit arrived, and quickly determined the package was misplaced, discarded roofing supplies.
Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran commended the caller for her diligence in reporting the package.
“The public are our eyes and ears in the community and we rely on their assistance,” Halloran said in a press release. “We are equally as grateful that the package was nothing more than trash and we apologize for any inconvenience it may have presented to the school’s occupants.”
