A second person has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash in East Haven from last week.

Police said Sara Montano, 28, faces third-degree hindering prosecution charges following the Sept. 14 crash on Frontage Road.

The one-car crash killed passenger Gaitana Girgenti.

Over the course of the investigation, police said they learned that the driver, 23-year-old Johnassis Melendez, fled the scene of the crash.

They said they learned that he was driven to the northern part of the state to avoid being arrested.

After questioning Montano about Melendez's location, she claimed she had no knowledge and no contact with him.

However, investigators found that she knew about the Frontage Road crash and that Melendez was the driver. She also knew that he was being sought for questioning, police said.

Montano admitted that she was the person who drive him to northern Connecticut.

She's being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to face a judge on Oct. 5 in New Haven.

Police said the investigation against Melendez remains active.

They are working with the State's Attorney's office to secure a second arrest warrant, which would include additional charges.

He is currently being held on criminal and motor vehicle charges, according to police.
