GRISWOLD, CT (WFSB) -

Griswold's first selectman is warning boaters about a necessary pond draw down hat will be happening this weekend.

Kevin Skulczyck said the town received word from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection that Pachaug Pond will be drawn down starting on Sunday.

The reason is so crews can make routine repairs on a bridge.

It will start with a foot of water on Sunday and the depth may vary through Nov. 1, when the full draw down happens.

The pond will remain drawn down to about 3 feet through the winter.

Skulczyck said the water level will be raised in the middle of March.

"We recommend that anyone with boats on Pachaug Pond remove them before the drawdown," he said. "We appreciate the State of Connecticut DEEP responding to our request for a draw down."

Skulczyck said the town will continue to work to get drawdowns on other ponds.

He said Hopeville and Ashland ponds are set for winter 2017-2018. Glasgo Pond would be done in the winter of 2018-2019.

The draw downs are typically planned for every three years.
