State police have identified the officer that fired at a 23-year-old man who died after he fell from the fourth floor of a Foxwoods parking garage earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal police officers attempted to serve Groton resident Michael Goodale an active arrest warrant inside the Fox Tower parking garage.

However, as they were trying to take him in to custody, Goodale, who was wanted for violation of probation, reportedly pointed a firearm at them.

Mashantucket police ordered him to drop his weapon, but he did not comply. Connecticut State Police said Mashantucket Tribal Police Sergeant Kevin Leach fired his duty weapon.

Goodale then fell from the fourth level of the Fox Tower parking garage, onto a paved driveway below.

Goodale was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

It is unclear if Goodale died as a result of being shot, or the fall. The chief medical examiner's office said the results were still pending further studies.

Leach has been with the Mashantucket Tribal Police Department for three years, police said. He joined the Mashantucket Tribal Police Department after retiring from the Norwich Police Department.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime unit.
