Arrest made after woman's stabbing in Willimantic

Willimantic Police responded to a domestic abuse incident at a residence within the city at around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday.

Following a number of 911 calls to the headquarters reporting a possible shooting, officers found a female victim in the driveway with several stab wounds to her back.

Determined to be in critical condition, the woman was transported to Windham Hospital before being airlifted to Hartford Hospital.

Police arrested suspected assailant, Angel Mendez Alvarez, who was still on scene.

Willimantic’s Criminal Investigation Division is now handling the investigation.

Alvarez is currently being held on $1 million bail at Willimantic Police Headquarters and has a pending court date of Sept. 26 in Danielson Superior Court.

Alvarez was charged with the following:

  • Criminal attempt to commit murder
  • Assault 1st degree
  • Violation of a protective order
  • Disorderly conduct
