A road in Windsor was closed Tuesday morning because of a bank robbery.

Police said they arrested 59-year-old Arthur Thompson of Windsor, in connection with the robbery.

The Department of Transportation reported that Route 159 was closed between the Windsor Shopping Center and Deerfield Road, because of the bank robbery. The area has since reopened.

The robbery was first reported just before 9 a.m. at the Santander Bank at 578 Windsor Ave.

Thompson was spotted fleeing the seen on a bicycle. He looked to be in possession of a suspicious item that looked like an explosive device.

Police closed off the area while the Hartford Bomb Squad investigated. Investigators determined that the device was a fake.

Money Thompson stole was recovered on the scene, according to officers.

Thompson was charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny, first-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

Police said he'll be held on bond and will face a judge on Wednesday.
