A Guilford man was arrested on Thursday after police said he was driving while intoxicated with his two young children in the back seat of the car.
Clinton police responded to a crash at about 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, at the intersection of Central Avenue and High Street.
Police said the driver, identified as 46-year-old Daniel O’Brien, had crossed the yellow line and caused the accident.
He appeared to be highly intoxicated, and police also found an open container believed to be of liquor in the center console cup holder, and a partially consumed bottle of liquor by the driver’s seat.
Police said his two young children, ages 2 and 7 months, were in the car. They were not injured.
The children were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and were reunited with their mother, who was not involved in the crash.
O’Brien was charged with drinking while driving, risk of injury to a minor, and failure to drive in the established lane.
He is being held on a $10,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Friday. The Department of Children and Families was also notified.
