A high school student in Shelton died Thursday night, according to the superintendent.

Superintendent Chris Clouet said Jonathan Sabo was a well-liked student at Shelton High School.

"With deep sorrow I must communicate to the community that a well-liked student at SHS, Jonathan Sabo, passed away [Thursday] night," Clouet said in a message to the community. "His untimely death is a family tragedy first and foremost, and it is a shock to his friends and the entire school community - as well as all of Shelton."

Clouet said the community needed to come together to support the Sabo family and all of its students.

School officials said Shelton High's 7 p.m. Friday football game against Xavier High School has been postponed until Saturday.
