Big Y is warning some Connecticut customers after credit card “skimmers” were removed from five stores including two in the state over the past week.
According to a Big Y spokesperson, the skimmers were found on the food service pizza registers last week, but did not explain how much money may have been stolen from unsuspecting customers.
The skimmers were found at the grocery stores in Avon and Rocky hill in Connecticut. Three more stores were targeted in Massachusetts.
Big Y is still inspecting payment terminals since the skimmers were discovered to make sure there are no more of them.
Police were also notified and are investigating the matter.
At this point, the company does not believe customer data was compromised, but it is still investigating the situation.
Big Y is urging customers to check their bank statements.
The company says it takes customer privacy and security very seriously.
Customers with any concerns or questions can call the Big Y toll-free number at 1-877-914-2449, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
