NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

On Thursday, police at Central Connecticut State University said they were investigating the report of a sexual assault that reportedly happened on campus.

However upon further investigation, police said later on Thursday that the sex assault did not happen on campus.

Police said the sexual assault was reported to have happened last Saturday at 12:30 a.m. in the Willard and Diloreto parking lot.

Police said there was no physical description of the suspect or the suspect’s clothing.

"I genuinely feel safe, so to hear that something like this happened is surprising and shocking," said student Lexie Davis.

Additional police patrols for the area were supposed to be provided, but students are advised to use caution and report any suspicious activity immediately.

"I should be conscious of my surroundings," said student Jennifer Colon.

Anyone with information should contact police at 860-832-2375.
