HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A school bus driver in Hartford was taken to the hospital after a student discharged some pepper spray on the bus on Monday afternoon.

Officials at the scene said all of the students on board were okay, and they were put on another school bus to be taken home.

The incident happened on Hawthorn Street near South Marshall Street.

Hartford police said a 12-year-old student was in possession of the pepper spray when another student took it and sprayed it.

Police said no students were sprayed, and neither was the bus driver, however the bus needed to be aired out.

Hartford Public Schools officials said the bus was from Renzulli Academy, which is for grades 4 through 8.

Officials said the student had the pepper spray for protection, however students are not allowed to have pepper spray in school or on the bus.

No further details were immediately available.
