WEST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A 22-year-old man is accused of coming up behind a hotel employee, then groping her and grabbing her breasts, according to police.

They said they arrested Paul Stephen Lake of New Haven shortly after 12 p.m. on Monday.

Police responded to the Best Western Hotel on Sawmill Road. They met with the maid who told them that she was assaulted by a hotel patron.

Officers said they learned that Lake asked the maid to clean his room.

They said the grabbing and groping came as she started to clean.

The two struggled as the suspect continued his advances, according to police. The victim was also strangled by Lake, whom police said put his hands around her neck and over her mouth in an attempt to quiet her screams.

The victim was able to break free and run for help.

Police arrived and said they found Lake in his room. The victim positively identified him.

Lake was charged with unlawful restraint, third-degree sexual assault, strangulation, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Police said he's being held on bond.

The victim was hospitalized for minor injuries, according to officers.
