HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The likely leadership of the Connecticut House of Representatives is beginning to take shape.

Following a meeting Tuesday, it appears House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz (ehr-eh-SIM'-oh-wits) of Berlin will be the next Speaker of the House and Hartford Rep. Matthew Ritter will become the new majority leader.

Both are expected to win re-election in November to their respective seats.

Aresimowicz is expected to be elected by Democratic and Republican House members as the next speaker. He's the only House Speaker candidate for next legislative session, which opens in January.

Meanwhile, if Democrats retain control of the House, as anticipated, they're expected to pick Ritter as majority leader. New Haven Rep. Toni Walker has pulled out of the race for majority leader and will return as co-chairman of the Appropriations Committee.
