ORANGE, CT (WFSB) -

A 35-year-old woman died after she was hit by a motor vehicle while trying to cross the street in Orange on Friday night.

Police said Charlotte Fox, of New Haven, was "attempting to cross five lanes of the Boston Post Road" around 9:45 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound.

Fox, who police said was part of the homeless community in New Haven, died from injuries suffered in the crash, police said.

The family of Fox lives out of state, so it took longer for police to notify them.

The crash remains under investigation by police. No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle.

Officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Orange Police Department at 203-891-2138.
