With the holiday season just around the corner, one package delivery company said its ramping up hiring.
The United Parcel Service announced on Tuesday that it plans to hire a combination of 2,300 seasonal and permanent workers in Connecticut.
“For many, it’s an opportunity to earn some extra cash for the holidays,” said David Abney, current CEO of UPS. “But with many of our holiday hires getting permanent jobs with us, it can also be a gateway to a career.”
Abney said he started loading trucks at night in 1974 while studying business at Delta State University in Mississippi.

UPS said 37 percent of the people it hires in recent years for seasonal package handling jobs stayed with the company on a permanent basis after the holidays.
