Wintry mix and a chilly rain on the way for Thursday

Posted: Updated:
HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Along with some chilly temperatures, a storm system is approaching for Thursday that could include some snow and sleet.

Temperatures will drop into the 40s then 30s Wednesday evening, and then into the lower 30s and 20s overnight.

The morning commute is expected to be clear, but a wintry mix and rain will develop by late morning and early afternoon.

"The hills of Northern and Western Connecticut could see a coating-2” of snow and sleet before a change to rain during the afternoon," said Chief Meteorologist Bruce DePrest.

For most of the state, little or no snow/sleet accumulation is expected, DePrest said.

Rain is expected to become steadier during the afternoon, and highs will only be in the 40s.

"The rain could be heavy at times for a while Thursday night. There is even a chance for a few rumbles of thunder," DePrest said.

The rain will end by Friday morning. It won't put much of a dent in the drought, but DePrest said it will do some good.

Friday will be partly sunny. However, there will be a strong northwesterly wind that could gust up to 40 mph or higher.
