A man jumped out of a second floor window of a multi-unit apartment complex on Farmington Avenue in New Britain after fire consumed the first floor. The man was later treated and released from the hospital, said New Britain Fire Chief Thomas Ronalter.

Firefighters responded within minutes to a large apartment building fire on Saturday evening that displaced 10 adults and for 4 children from their home. The fire was knocked down in 25 minutes, said Chief Ronalter.

The 3-story, 12-unit building sustained heavy fire damage on the first floor, and smoke damage throughout the building, said Chief Ronalter, in a release.

Multiple engine companies, including 1, 7, 8 and Ladder 1 responded to the fire as it was a first alarm. When officials declared the fire a second alarm, backup was called. Mutual aid was called from Hartford and West Hartford Fire Departments.

“Immediate activation of a Second Alarm and aggressive firefighting by fire companies prevented a much larger loss than occurred,” said Chief Ronalter.

“Firefighters did an excellent job bringing this fire under control.”

The fire remains under investigation by the New Britain Fire Marshal’s Office.
