Police in Meriden are investigating after a man’s body was found decomposing inside an apartment building Wednesday night.
The man’s body was found inside an apartment on East Main Street.
Police said based on the state of decomposition, the man’s death did not happen recently.
The man’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
His body has been positively identified, however police did not release his identity yet.
An autopsy will be performed.
Neighbors said the man is in his 70s and that they hadn't seen him for a few weeks.
On Wednesday afternoon, neighbors said a maintenance worker and a neighbor went to his apartment on the third floor to check on him. When they got to the door, they smelled what they feared was a dead body, so they called police.
"His car has been missing for a long time, and nobody had seen or heard from him for awhile so I guess that had investigated it. I was surprised, a murder," said neighbor Donna Douglas.
Neighbors also said the man's live-in girlfriend passed away not too long ago.
