NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

There are new developments in a battle over bad living conditions at a housing complex in New London.

On Thursday, the city said it is working with state and federal housing agencies to begin the six month process of relocating the tenants out of the Thames River Apartment complex that they describe as having deteriorated living conditions.

Tenants said it is about time.

"I think that's fabulous I wouldn't want anything other than that. But I mean you know such is everything, everyplace has its issues," Jamie Quinones said.

The 123-unit building has been the subject of complaints for years.

Nearly a decade ago, people living inside filed a class-action suit, trying to get conditions improved. The complex, known as the Crystal Avenue complex, has had cockroach problems and mechanical infrastructure problems.

The city said the process of getting all residents into replacement housing could take more than six months.
