Man seriously hurt trying to cross Coventry street

COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) -

A man trying to cross a street in Coventry Sunday suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Coventry police said it happened on the Tolland Turnpike at the intersection of Dimock Road, near the Tolland town line.

Police said the incident occurred just before 8 p.m.

They said the vehicle involved had been heading northbound on Route 195 when the driver struck the man, who was trying to cross the roadway from Jones Crossing Road.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by way of the Life Star emergency helicopter.

The road was closed for about three hours. It has since reopened.

The names of the victim and the driver have not been released.
