New London police search for bank robbery suspect

NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with bank robbery in New London on Wednesday morning.

The robbery was reported at the Chelsea Groton Savings Bank, located at 1 Montauk Ave., around 9:45 a.m.

Police said an unidentified man “entered the bank, handed a teller a note and left with an undisclosed amount of money.” The suspect was running northbound on Summer Street from Bank Street.

There was no displayed during the robbery, police said. No injuries were reported to police.

The suspect was described as 6’ with a thin build and scruffy facial hair. During the robbery, the man was wearing light blue jeans, black sneakers and a thick black coat with a fur trimmed hood.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting the New London Police Department in the investigation. Anyone with any information about the robbery is asked to call the New London Police Department Detective Division at 860-447-1481 or submit a tip via our Tip411 system.
