HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Hartford police took two guns off the streets on Wednesday following investigations into a number of shootings in the Branford Street area.

Officers arrested 32-year-old Jonathan Williams of Windsor and 27-year-old Jonathan Weaver of Bloomfield after conducting surveillance in the area.

Detectives said they saw a known suspect who was recently involved in a shooting drive in a vehicle seen during a drug transaction.

They stopped the vehicle and found that a passenger in the vehicle had a gun magazine sticking out of the front of his pants.

Both the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle.

Both were found to have a loaded Ruger 9 mm pistol, according to police.

Williams was charged with possession of a high capacity magazine and failure to use a traffic signal. He did have a pistol permit, according to police.

Weaver was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine and possession of a controlled substance.

Police said they seized the Ruger and 12 rounds of a magazine, both from Williams.

They also recovered a stolen Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol with 9 rounds, along with a second loaded magazine containing 14 rounds.

The gun was reported stolen in June of 2009, police said.
