A staple in the city of Hartford for two decades is moving locations in the capital city.
The restaurant Vito’s by the Park is moving due to a nearby construction project, which has taken a toll on the business.
It's been a long two years for Rob Maffucci, who is the owner of Vito’s by the Park. With construction literally right outside his door since 2014, things became slower than normal.
"It's been pretty intrusive and very impactful to the business,” Maffucci said.
The $25 million project designed to widen area sidewalks was supposed to be done last year. At first Maffucci said business went down by 20 percent, but this summer it got even worse.
"They ripped up our sidewalks in June, July and it just cut our business in half,” Maffucci said. “We just couldn't sustain it."
Now, Vito’s by the Park will be changing names and location. The restaurant is moving up the block to 280 Trumbull St. The restaurant will be called V's Trattoria and there will also be Vito's to Go takeout restaurant next door.
"I'm a devoted customer and it's only a couple blocks down the road and I could use the exercise,” Steve Bobala said.
Vito’s by the Park will close on Nov. 23. Vito's to Go is expected to open by the end of this month. V's Trattoria in March.
"It's a new beginning for us and we're really excited about that,” Maffucci said.
It is unclear who will take over the location of Vito’s by the Park.
The construction project on Trumbull Street should be completed by the end of the year.
