NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

A historic moment happened in New London on Wednesday evening.

Officials publicly revealed, for the first time in 104 years, the artifacts stored in the city hall time capsule.

City Hall is about to undergo a $3 million renovation, but before doing so, the city learned one of the original renovation plans lies hidden in a time capsule that was planted in 1912.

Masons, after much probing and digging, finally discovered the copper clad container hidden in the wall on the first floor of the town clerk’s office.

Wednesday is the 104th anniversary when the capsule was buried during the City Hall renovation of 1912. The cost of a newspaper back then was just $0.02.

According to a newspaper story, inside the capsule were copies of the city charter, daily newspapers, stamps and coins, among other items.

The New London Historical Society will document and archive the contents found burrowed in the limestone cornerstone of the building.
