A bicyclist has succumbed to his injuries after he was struck by a car in Bristol.
Police said the accident took place on Route 72 between Lois Street and Emmett Street, at about 5:20 p.m.
Bristol dispatch and police told Eyewitness News that they responded to at least 3 accidents, including another accident on Route 72, just a few blocks away.
"It's unfortunate that they have to witness or see something like this," said Bristol resident, Fernando Santiago, who lives nearby.
Santiago told Eyewitness News that he heard a victim died after being struck by a car near his home at the intersection of Pine and Emmett St, and he said he wondered if he knew the victim.
"Everybody knows each other in this neighborhood," said Santiago. "Everybody's on bikes, everybody knows this corner."
Police said a man was attempting to cross the road on his bicycle when he was struck by a car traveling west. He was taken to Bristol Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
"Not a good outcome for anybody," said Santiago. "There's a lot of kids coming from this neighborhood."
The driver of the car remained on scene, was uninjured, and cooperated with police.
