HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The snow started to taper off on Monday afternoon, after parts of the state saw more than a foot of snow.

A winter storm warning is in effect for northern Litchfield County until 7 p.m.

"The snow will slowly taper off later this evening; in the meantime, it will be cold and windy," said Meteorologist Mark Dixon.

Some towns reported 18 inches of snow  on Sunday. Norfolk in particular saw the 18 inches on Sunday alone.

On Monday, the main roads and highways looked okay in Litchfield County. However, the secondary roads may have developed a slight coating.

A number of spinouts and crashes led to some road closures Monday morning.

As flurries and snow showers diminish Monday evening, the wind will also become less intense, but Chief Meteorologist Bruce DePrest said it will remain blustery throughout the night.

"Temperatures will be in the 20s and lower 30s, but wind chill readings will be in the teens and 20s," DePrest said.

Tuesday and Wednesday look decent with a little bit of wind carrying over onto the former. Highs will be in the 40s on both days, though less breezy and slightly warmer on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night into Thursday, DePrest said a wintry mix could make roads slick overnight.

"Although light, an icy mix will be with us Thursday morning as well over interior portions of the state," DePrest said.
