Scooter rider struck by Conn. College student identified by police

NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

The rider of a scooter struck by a drunk Connecticut College student has been identified by New London police.

They said Zachary E. Chesebro, 36, remained in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon.

Chesebro was traveling along Route 32 south shortly after 12:15 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by 19-year-old Sophia Thielman of Rye Brooke, NY.

Thielman was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police.

She is due in court in January.

The road was closed until about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the accident investigation remained open and ongoing Wednesday afternoon.
