A Hartford icon is due for a face lift and it's up to the public to weigh in on the project.
The XL Center is scheduled for a $250 million improvement plan is aimed at bringing the venue up to more modern standards. A Study done in 2015 by SCI Architects concluded that more than 100,000 is needed to accomplish the goal.
The 16,000 seat arena is home to the Hartford Wolf Pack AHL hockey team as well as the off-campus home to the UConn Men's and Women's basketball teams and the UConn hockey team.
The venue has also hosted world-renowned recording artists like Justin Timberlake, Justin Beiber and Katy Perry.
Renovations were completed in 2014 and included mechanical system upgrades, locker room and concourse upgrades as well as aesthetic improvements.
A new bar and luxury seating was also added. These improvements, however, were only seen as an interim effort.
The public hearing tonight is scheduled for 6 p.m. in room 21 of the Connecticut Convention Center, 100 Columbus Blvd. It will be held by the Capital Region Development Authority.
