'Tis the season to give.
Tuesday marked an annual nationwide initiative called Giving Tuesday.
It's something in which businesses and charities alike have been participating.
At Toys 'R' Us, Marines were stationed at stores throughout the country, including on New Britain Avenue in West Hartford, to encourage people to donate to Toys for Tots.
Donors can drop of new, unwrapped toys or cash donations at any Toys 'R' Us or Babies 'R' Us location.
Marines were at the West Hartford location between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
In Stamford, volunteers from Voya Financial assembled first aid kits at the Americares headquarters.
The kits contain bandages, burn gel and pain relievers and will be shipped out to victims of tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding and other emergencies.
Americares said it responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year.
Giving Tuesday, noted on social media with the hashtag #GivingTuesday, was created in 2012 in conjunction with the Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping season.
The movement eyes social media as a means to help people around the world.
