With the promise of winter weather around the corner, Operation Fuel is working to make sure everyone stays warm this winter.
The statewide assistance program began taking applications for help on Thursday.
Families and individuals who are struggling financially and need energy assistance should call 211 to find their closest fuel bank. The non-profit currently operates at 107 banks statewide.
"This holiday season, we are asking Connecticut residents to consider making a small donation to help ensure that vulnerable households are able to heat their homes and keep their lights and electricity on," said Karen Adamson, executive director. "Many of the people we help are children and the elderly."
Last year Operation Fuel helped out nearly 8,000 households in Connecticut and provided more than $3 million in energy assistance.
One way that residents can help those in need is by checking the option on their own bill to donate a dollar to Operation Fuel.
You can also donate online or send a donation to headquarters on Charter Oak Avenue in Hartford.
Donations also can be sent to Operation Fuel, 75 Charter Oak Ave., Suite 2-240, Hartford, CT. 06106.
